macOS and software repair in KL: boot problems, slowdowns, clean installs.
A Mac that will not get past the Apple logo, restarts on its own, or has slowed to a crawl after an update is very often a software problem rather than a hardware one, and the fix does not need to touch a single part inside the machine. iPRO Ampang is an Apple Certified Independent Repair Provider in Taman Dagang, Ampang, and our software bench handles boot repair, macOS reinstalls, malware removal and clean installs, with your files backed up before we touch anything. Free diagnosis, fixed quote, most jobs done in 1 to 4 hours the same day.
- Free diagnosis
- No fix, no fee
- Up to 18-month warranty
- Repaired in front of you
A Mac that hangs on the Apple logo, a progress bar that never finishes, or a machine that has become unbearably slow after an update usually points to macOS itself rather than a failing part, and telling the two apart before quoting anything is the first thing we do. iPRO Ampang is an Apple Certified Independent Repair Provider in Taman Dagang, Ampang, and our software bench covers boot repair, macOS reinstalls and clean installs, malware and adware removal, and locked-account recovery, on any MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio or Mac Pro.
Every software job starts the same way: we back up whatever is still readable off the drive before we change anything, then work through the fault methodically rather than reaching straight for a reinstall. Most jobs are quoted after a free diagnosis and finished the same visit, in 1 to 4 hours, and every Mac is fully tested, boot, Wi-Fi, updates and login, before it goes back to you.
macOS and software problems we fix
Stuck on the Apple logo or progress bar
A Mac that shows the Apple logo with a progress bar that crawls, stalls or restarts partway through is failing somewhere in the startup process, whether that is a corrupted system file, a failed update, or a permissions fault left behind by a crash. We boot into Recovery Mode to see exactly where the process is failing before deciding whether a repair install or a clean install is the right fix.
Flashing folder with a question mark ([data recovery](/mac-data-recovery-kl/))
A flashing folder with a question mark means the Mac cannot find a bootable system, usually because the startup disk is not being recognised rather than because macOS itself is damaged. If the drive turns out to be failing rather than just misconfigured, getting your files off it safely matters more than getting the Mac to boot again; see data recovery if that is the situation you are in.
Kernel panics and restarts
A grey screen telling you to restart your computer, or a Mac that reboots on its own without warning, points to something deeper failing while macOS is running rather than a simple app crash. We check the logs each panic leaves behind to see whether it is a driver conflict, a corrupted extension, or a fault that goes beyond software.
Very slow after an update
A Mac that ran fine before an update and now takes minutes to open an app or spins the beachball constantly usually has an indexing job, a stuck background process, or a corrupted preference caught in a loop. We identify exactly what changed and either let the Mac finish what it is doing properly or clear out whatever is stuck, rather than just telling you to wait it out.
Forgotten password or locked account
Locked out of your own Mac after too many failed attempts, or a forgotten login password with no other admin account to fall back on, is one of the most common reasons people come to our software bench. We work through Apple's own recovery paths for your account, with the Mac and proof it belongs to you in front of us.
Malware, adware, pop-ups
Browser pop-ups that will not stop, a homepage that changed itself, or a Mac that suddenly feels slower after installing something from outside the App Store are the usual signs of adware or a rogue configuration profile rather than a classic virus. We remove the offending software and any profile it installed, and check nothing else was added alongside it.
Update fails or no space ([SSD upgrade](/macbook-ssd-ram-upgrade-kl/))
A macOS update that fails partway, or will not even start because there is not enough free space, leaves some Macs stuck on an old, unsupported version. If the real problem is a small drive rather than the update itself, see SSD upgrade for the models where more storage is possible.
Old Mac needs a supported macOS
Apple drops official support for a model after a number of years, which locks that Mac out of the latest macOS version and, eventually, out of security updates too. We check which macOS versions your specific model can still run, officially or through a community-supported route, before recommending anything.
Software fault or failing SSD? We check first
Slow performance, apps that hang, and a Mac that will not boot can all look identical whether the cause is macOS itself or a drive that has started to fail, and fixing software on top of a dying disk only buys a few weeks before the same symptoms come back. Before we touch macOS at all, we run a drive health check on the bench, checking read and write speed against what that drive should manage and watching for the early warning signs a failing SSD leaves behind.
Where the drive is sound, we go straight ahead with whatever software fix the diagnosis calls for. Where the drive itself is the actual problem, we tell you plainly rather than reinstall macOS onto hardware that is already failing, and set out what the honest next step looks like for that specific Mac before any further work begins.
Clean install without losing your files
A clean install of macOS, wiping the drive and starting from a completely empty system, is sometimes genuinely the right fix: for a Mac riddled with years of conflicting software, or one you are about to sell or hand to someone else. It also sounds, to a lot of people, like the one thing guaranteed to lose their photos, documents and years of settings, which is why we always ask what you actually want before reaching for it.
For most repairs a clean install is not necessary at all, and a targeted fix gets the Mac working without touching your files. Where a clean install genuinely is the right call, we back up everything readable from the old drive first, wipe and reinstall macOS, then migrate your files, logins and settings back across, so the Mac ends up clean underneath but still feels like yours on top.
Activation Lock, passwords and what we need from you
Activation Lock ties a Mac to the Apple ID that set it up, and we cannot bypass it, remove it, or work around it on your behalf under any circumstances; that is exactly how the feature is designed to work, and getting around it would defeat the entire point of it existing. If a Mac in front of us shows Activation Lock, the owner enters their own Apple ID and password to clear it before any further work is possible.
For any account or password recovery job we also ask for proof the Mac is yours, along with the Mac itself and, where relevant, its charger so we can test it properly through the recovery process. This is not extra paperwork for its own sake: it is the same standard Apple itself expects before helping with a locked account, and it protects you as much as it protects us.
