Storage full
The "Your disk is almost full" warning, apps that will not update, and Photos or Messages refusing to sync are the most common reason people come to us for a bigger drive. On the Macs that support it, a larger SSD clears the problem outright instead of you deleting files to buy a few more weeks.
Slow boot on a spinning hard drive (iMac)
Older iMacs shipped with a traditional spinning hard drive or a Fusion Drive that pairs a small SSD with a hard drive, and both are now the single biggest bottleneck on those machines. Swapping to a full SSD is usually the most noticeable speed upgrade an older iMac can get, often more dramatic than a faster processor would be.
Beachballs with too little RAM
If Activity Monitor shows memory pressure in the red or yellow while you are just browsing and using a few apps, the Mac is swapping data to disk constantly, and that shows up as the spinning beachball cursor. On models with accessible memory, more RAM removes that bottleneck directly.
Old SSD slowing or failing
SSDs do wear out, and a drive nearing the end of its life shows up as slow saves, apps that hang while loading, or in more advanced cases actual read and write errors. A fresh drive fixes the slowdown and, caught early, avoids a failure that could take your data with it.

iMac 2012–2019
Most iMacs across this range have a serviceable storage bay behind the display, taking a SATA or PCIe drive depending on the exact model and year. We confirm which your unit takes before quoting, since the part and the price differ.
Which Macs cannot be upgraded (soldered)
Every MacBook from 2018 onward and every Apple Silicon Mac, including the M1 through M4 MacBook Air and Pro, has storage and memory soldered directly onto the logic board, with no slot or socket to swap. On these models an upgrade after purchase is not possible; we say so plainly rather than take the job and disappoint you.
Which Macs can be upgraded, and which cannot
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models from 2012 to 2017 use a removable SSD, but not a standard part you can buy off any shelf: Apple fitted a proprietary blade-shaped drive with its own connector and pinout, different across several generations, so the replacement has to be the right blade for your exact model rather than a generic M.2 drive. iMacs from 2012 to 2019 generally have a serviceable storage bay taking a SATA or PCIe drive depending on the model, and the Mac mini from 2012 to 2014, and again in 2018, has accessible RAM once the case is open.
From 2018 onward every MacBook has its storage soldered directly to the logic board, and every Apple Silicon Mac, MacBook, Mac mini, iMac, Mac Studio and Mac Pro alike, has both storage and memory built into the chip package itself with no slot at all. There is no physical way to add capacity to these machines after they leave the factory. We check the exact model and year before quoting anything, because the line between upgradable and soldered falls in the middle of some product lines, not neatly at a single year across the board.
What you get: drive, migration, clean install
An upgrade quote includes the new SSD or RAM module itself, fitted and tested on the bench before it goes back into your Mac. For a storage upgrade we then migrate your existing macOS installation, applications, files, logins and settings across from the old drive, so the Mac starts up exactly as you left it, just on more space. If you would rather start fresh, we can do a clean install of macOS instead and copy back only the files you choose.
Either way we boot the finished Mac fully, confirm it holds a charge and reaches the desktop cleanly, and check that Spotlight has finished indexing the new drive before handing it back, since a fresh index is what makes search and Time Machine behave normally again after a migration.
iMac and Mac mini upgrades
An iMac's storage bay sits behind the display, so the job involves releasing the screen carefully before the drive is reachable, more involved than a MacBook but well within a routine bench job for us. Swapping a spinning hard drive or a Fusion Drive for a full SSD is usually the single most noticeable upgrade an older iMac can get, since the drive was the bottleneck holding the rest of the machine back.
The Mac mini opens from the base and, on the generations that support it, gives access to both the drive and the RAM slots in the same step, so a customer upgrading storage often adds memory in the same visit for very little extra labour. Both machines are tested for stability under load before we call the job finished, not just booted once and handed back.
