Liquid does not damage a MacBook the moment it lands on the keyboard. The damage happens over the hours and days after, as whatever was spilled keeps conducting current across a live board and starts corroding metal it is still touching. iPRO Ampang is an Apple Certified Independent Repair Provider in Taman Dagang, Ampang, and the single biggest factor in whether a liquid-damaged Mac comes back to life is how fast it gets to us with the power off.
We do not quote a liquid damage job over the phone or from a photo, because nobody can see corrosion through a closed case. What we can promise is a free diagnosis: the machine comes apart, the board goes through an ultrasonic bath, and only then do we know what actually failed and what it costs to fix. Won't turn on after a spill
No response at all to the power button, no chime, no fan, nothing on an external display either. This is the most common state a liquid-damaged Mac arrives in, and it does not tell us much on its own: it could be a single shorted component or board-wide corrosion, and only the ultrasonic clean and inspection sort the two apart.
Keys dead or typing by themselves
Liquid under the keyboard either kills the affected keys outright or bridges two contacts so a key repeats or types on its own without being touched. On most models since 2016 the keyboard sits directly above the logic board, so we always check the board itself even when the fault looks like it is only the keys.
Screen flicker after rain
Water that gets in around a closed lid, from rain or a wet bag, tends to track down into the display cable and connector rather than the panel itself. A flicker that started right after the machine got wet is usually a corroded connector, not a failed panel, and cheaper to put right.
Trackpad sticky or unresponsive
Spilled drinks leave a sugary residue that seizes the trackpad's mechanism long after the liquid itself has evaporated, even where the board underneath survived undamaged. We clean the trackpad and its cable separately from the board work, since the two faults do not always travel together.
Not charging after liquid
If the charger LED does not respond or the Mac only trickle-charges after a spill, corrosion has usually reached the charging circuit or the port itself. We test the DC-in and charging IC once the board is clean; see charging port repair if the port connector turns out to be the only thing affected.
Turns on then dies
A Mac that boots, runs for a few seconds or minutes, then shuts off on its own is often shorting somewhere under load as corrosion products heat up and expand slightly. This pattern gets worse the longer the board sits uncleaned, which is why the same-day rule matters more here than almost any other fault.
Works, but corrosion spreading
Some Macs keep functioning right after a spill and only start failing days or weeks later, as corrosion that formed early continues eating through traces and pads. A working Mac that was recently wet is still worth an ultrasonic clean, because the damage is progressive, not a one-time event.
Spill months ago, failing now
Faults can surface long after the liquid itself is gone, once corrosion has finally worked through a trace, via or connector pin. If a Mac develops an unexplained fault and you remember a spill from weeks or months back, tell us: it changes where we look on the board and often speeds up the diagnosis.
The first thirty minutes: what to do and what not to do
Power the Mac off immediately, even if it seems to still be working. A powered board sitting in liquid is actively corroding faster, because current is still flowing across whatever is bridging its contacts; a powered-off board is not. Unplug the charger too, and disconnect anything plugged into it. Do not press the power button again to check if it still turns on: every extra second of current flowing through wet contacts makes the eventual repair more expensive.
Do not put it in rice. Do not use a hair dryer on it. Do not shake it, tilt it upside down, or prop it open to air dry, and do not try to plug it in again to see if it charges. None of these help, and several of them actively push liquid further into the machine or drive it deeper around components. The only thing that reliably improves the outcome is getting the machine to us, powered off, as soon as you can. Bring the charger and cable too, since we will need to test those separately later.
What we do at the bench
The Mac is fully disassembled, not just opened: the logic board, keyboard assembly, trackpad and any other affected parts come out so each can be inspected and cleaned on its own. The board then goes through an ultrasonic bath, which uses high-frequency sound waves in a cleaning solution to lift corrosion and residue out of connectors, sockets and the gaps under components that a wipe or a brush cannot reach.
Once the board is clean and dry we inspect it under the microscope, tracing power rails and checking components against Apple's schematics the same way we do for any other logic board fault. Corroded pads, traces and connector pins are repaired or replaced at component level. If the keyboard, trackpad or battery were affected, each is tested on its own once the board itself is confirmed working, since a liquid spill rarely stops at just one part.
Rice, hair dryers and other myths
Rice does not actively dry a MacBook and does nothing at all for the corrosion that is the real cause of most liquid damage failures, not residual moisture. By the time a Mac has sat in a bag of rice for a day, corrosion has usually had far more time to spread than if it had come to us that same afternoon, powered off. A hair dryer is worse: heat speeds up the corrosion reaction and can push liquid further into the board through gaps that were dry a moment before.
The only intervention that consistently helps is the one that costs nothing and takes no special equipment: turn it off, leave it off, and get it to someone who can open the case and clean the board properly. Everything else people reach for in the first panicked minutes after a spill either does nothing or actively makes the eventual repair more expensive.
