No power, no charge light
The Mac shows no sign of life at all, and the charger's status light either does not change or stays off when it should confirm a connection. This is almost always a power management or charging IC fault on the board rather than the charger or the battery.
Turns on, no display (GPU)
Fans spin, keyboard backlight comes on, but the screen stays black even on an external monitor. On the affected Pro models this is usually a GPU fault on the board itself, sometimes recoverable, sometimes needing a board swap depending on how far the damage has spread.
Random restarts and kernel panics
A Mac that restarts on its own, shows a grey kernel panic screen, or shuts down under load can point to a board-level power or memory fault rather than a software problem. We test under load on the bench to catch faults that only show up once the machine has been running for a while.
Not charging, charger LED off
If the charger's own light never comes on when plugged in, the fault is usually inside the Mac rather than the cable or adapter. We check the port and its connector first: see charging port repair if the port itself is the issue rather than the board.
USB-C or Thunderbolt ports dead
One or more ports stop recognising anything at all, or work only for charging and not data, while the rest of the machine runs normally. This points to the port's controller circuit on the board, tested port by port before we confirm which one has failed.
Liquid damage corrosion

Fan at full speed, no boot
The fan runs flat out from the moment you press the power button and the machine never reaches a boot chime or logo. This usually means the board is stuck in a protective state after detecting a fault, rather than the fan itself being the problem.
SSD not detected on soldered-storage Macs
On Macs with storage soldered directly to the logic board, a storage fault can look identical to a board fault: no boot, no disk in Recovery Mode, nothing visible to Disk Utility. If your data has not been backed up, see data recovery before any board work starts.
Repair versus replace: why component-level matters
A full logic board replacement, new or reconditioned, is the fastest fix and sometimes the only option, but it is also the most expensive path and it throws away a board that may only have one or two failed components on it. Component-level repair means testing the board down to individual chips and capacitors, and replacing only what has actually failed.
This matters most on Apple Silicon Macs, where storage and memory sit on the same board as the processor: a straight board swap on these models means a different chip entirely, with your original storage and its data gone unless it was recovered first. Repairing the board you already have keeps your original components in place wherever that is possible.
How we diagnose a board
We start by checking power rails with a bench power supply set to current-limit, which shows immediately whether the board is drawing power normally or shorting somewhere, without risking further damage while we look. A thermal camera then finds any component running hotter than its neighbours, which is usually where the fault is.
From there we work against Apple's own board schematics and boardview files to trace the affected circuit back to a specific component, rather than guessing or swapping parts at random. Micro-soldering under the microscope replaces exactly that component, and we retest the same power-rail and thermal checks afterward to confirm the fault is actually gone before the board goes back into the machine.
