The MacBook Pro line at iPRO Ampang runs the full span Apple has sold: unibody notebooks from 2009, Retina Pros with a removable SSD, the Touch Bar generation with its now well-known keyboard and display cable faults, and the Apple Silicon M1 through M4 Pro and Max models that trade ports for battery life and raw performance. Whatever generation you carry in, the fault patterns are well known to us and mostly repairable the same day.
We are an Apple Certified Independent Repair Provider in Taman Dagang, Ampang, working since 2017. MacBook Pro generations we repair
MacBook Pro 14" and 16" M4 / M3 (2023–2025)
The current line. Faults here are mostly accidental: cracked lids, swollen batteries and liquid spills through the keyboard. The board repairs well under the microscope when a spill reaches it early.
MacBook Pro 14" and 16" M1 / M2 Pro and Max (2021–2023)
Brought back MagSafe, HDMI and an SD card slot. We see cracked mini-LED displays, swollen batteries and the odd port failure on these; the board itself is generally reliable.
MacBook Pro 13" M2 / M1 Touch Bar (2020–2022)
Apple Silicon inside the old Touch Bar chassis, with the scissor-switch keyboard rather than butterfly. Batteries and Touch Bar strips fail more often than the logic board.
MacBook Pro 13" / 15" / 16" Intel Touch Bar (2016–2020)
The generation with the most known faults: Flexgate, the stage-light band at the bottom of the screen caused by a worn backlight cable on 2016–2017 15-inch models; the butterfly keyboard fitted from 2016 to 2019, prone to sticking or dead keys; and Touch Bar strips that stop responding. All three are routine repairs here.
MacBook Pro Retina 13" / 15" (2012–2015)
Pre-Touch Bar Retina Pros with a removable, though proprietary, SSD, so an upgrade or a data pull does not need the logic board opened. Swollen batteries pushing up the trackpad are the most common fault we see on this generation.
MacBook Pro unibody (2009–2012, limited parts)
The last Pros with a user-removable hard drive and battery. We still service these when parts allow, though some connectors and casings are now hard to source.
Intel Touch Bar era: what fails
The 2016 to 2020 Touch Bar Pros are the generation we see most for known, named faults. Flexgate affects 2016 and 2017 15-inch models: the backlight cable behind the hinge wears thin from years of opening and closing the lid, producing a band of stage-lighting at the bottom of the screen that gets worse over time. The cable, or in worse cases the full display, is what fixes it.
The butterfly keyboard fitted from 2016 to 2019 traps dust and crumbs under keys with almost no travel, so a single grain can make a key stick, double-type or stop responding entirely. We replace the keyboard as part of the top case, testing every key and the trackpad before handover. Touch Bar strips on any year in this range can also stop responding or show artefacts; a failed strip is a separate part from the keyboard, and Touch ID can fail on its own.
Apple Silicon Pro: what fails
M1 through M4 Pro and Max models are built around a single large logic board with no fan intake near the keyboard, so the usual faults are physical rather than architectural: a cracked lid from a drop, a battery that swells after three or four years, and liquid that gets past the keyboard deck and reaches the board. Boards from this era repair well under the microscope once we get to them quickly.
Mini-LED and Liquid Retina XDR displays on the 14-inch and 16-inch models cost more to replace than the older 13-inch Touch Bar panel, so where the fault is a cable rather than the panel itself, we repair the cable and keep your original screen. Battery replacement on Apple Silicon Pros is a same-day job even though the packs are glued in rather than clipped.
How a MacBook Pro repair works here

If you approve, the repair happens in front of you: batteries about an hour, 13-inch screens one to three hours, 14 and 16-inch screens quoted after the free diagnosis, keyboards one to three hours, logic board repair one to three days.
Every repair is tested before handover: display, keyboard, Touch Bar or Touch ID where fitted, trackpad, ports, battery health, camera, Wi-Fi and a full boot cycle. The warranty period depends on the repair type, up to 18 months on parts and our workmanship.
