Common Mac Pro faults
No power at all

GPU faults on the 2013 cylinder

SSD module failure

Fan noise or thermal cycling
Years of dust and heat cycling wear the fan bearings and dry out thermal paste on any Mac Pro generation; we clean and re-paste as part of any bench job, and the same bench replaces battery and keyboard parts on any MacBook that shares the edit suite.
Won't get past the Apple logo

Mac Pro generations we repair
Mac Pro M2 Ultra (2023)
The current Apple Silicon tower: PCIe expansion slots for cards like storage and networking, but no user-replaceable RAM or GPU, both fixed to the machine the same as any other M-series Mac. Faults on this generation are almost always board-level, diagnosed and repaired at component level.
Mac Pro 2019 (Intel Xeon tower)
The Xeon workstation tower: MPX module GPUs and genuinely user-accessible memory in DIMM slots, the most upgrade-friendly Mac Pro since 2012. Common faults are MPX module and power supply failures, plus its own removable SSD module.
Mac Pro 2013 (cylinder)
The dual-GPU cylinder, elegant and thermally compact, with a well-known pattern of GPU failures causing crashes or no display. Power supply faults are the other common job on this generation; both need the bench and component-level diagnosis.
Mac Pro 2010–2012 (tower, limited parts)
The cheese grater tower, still the most upgrade-friendly Mac Pro Apple ever built, with accessible drive bays and memory. Still repairable when parts allow, though availability is limited at this age.
2013 cylinder: GPU and power faults
The 2013 Mac Pro's dual-GPU cylinder design is elegant to look at and notoriously prone to graphics failures: a unit that crashes under load, shows no display at all, or throws graphical corruption on screen is very often one of its two GPUs dying, a pattern well known across the whole 2013 generation rather than something specific to any one unit. We test both GPUs independently and repair at component level rather than replacing the whole board on a guess.
Power faults on the cylinder point to the compact power supply built into the base of the unit, which runs hot in a small enclosure and is the other common failure point on this generation. Both jobs need the bench, typically one to three days, since the fault has to be confirmed under load before we're confident it's actually fixed.
2019 tower: modules and upgrades
The 2019 Mac Pro brought back a proper Intel Xeon tower with MPX module GPUs and genuinely user-accessible memory in DIMM slots, which makes it the most repair- and upgrade-friendly Mac Pro since the 2010 to 2012 cheese grater. RAM errors on this generation are usually a seated-module or slot fault we can test and fix directly, while an MPX module or power supply fault needs component-level board work.
Its own SSD sits on a removable module rather than being soldered flat to the board, so a storage fault here is more serviceable than on the 2013 cylinder or the 2023 M2 Ultra, though it is still an Apple-specific module rather than an off-the-shelf drive we can swap in minutes. We confirm exactly what's failed before quoting, since the 2019 tower's repair options differ meaningfully from either the generation before it or after it.
Bring the tower, keep the monitor
You do not need the Pro Display XDR, a monitor, keyboard or mouse; we test with our own at the counter, and there's no packing risk carrying just the tower the way there is with an iMac's screen. The tower is heavier than it looks, so carry it by the frame rather than any cable or port, and leave the wheels, where fitted, on for the trip in.
