A MacBook display is the most expensive part of the machine after the logic board, and it is also the part that fails most often: a drop that spiders the glass, a lid closed on a stray earbud, a hinge that slowly wears through the backlight cable. iPRO Ampang is an Apple Certified Independent Repair Provider in Taman Dagang, Ampang, and MacBook screen replacement is the job we do most, every day, at the counter in front of the customer.
We stock display assemblies for the common MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, so most screens are replaced in one to three hours, the same day. Older Intel models and rarer sizes are not always in stock. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the date before you commit. Every screen carries a 6 to 12 month warranty on the part and our workmanship, and if the fault turns out to be something cheaper than a full display, that is what we quote.
MacBook screen problems we fix
Cracked or shattered glass
Any drop damage, from a corner spider crack to a fully black panel. Full display assembly replacement, colour-matched to your lid.
Flickering or glitching image
Intermittent flicker that changes with the lid angle is usually the display flex cable, not the panel. We test before we quote.
Vertical or horizontal lines
Coloured or white lines that stay after a restart mean panel or connector damage. Lines only inside macOS but not at boot point to the GPU: see logic board repair.
Dark band at the bottom (Flexgate)
The stage-light effect on 2016 to 2018 MacBook Pros from a worn backlight cable. Repairable at the cable on some units, full assembly on others.
No image, but the Mac is on
Fan spins, keyboard lights up, an external monitor works: the internal display or its cable has failed. The free diagnosis tells you which.
Backlight dead, faint image
You can see the desktop with a torch. Backlight fuse, cable or panel, quoted after diagnosis, often much cheaper than a new panel.
Coating peeling (Staingate)
The anti-reflective coating on Retina panels wearing off in patches. Only a new panel fixes it properly.
Dead pixels, bright spots, pressure marks
Panel damage from pressure on the closed lid. Replaced with a new original-grade assembly.
Panel-only or full display assembly?
On MacBooks since 2012 the LCD, glass, backlight and camera are bonded into one lid assembly. Apple replaces the whole lid. We can do that too, and it is the right fix for cracked glass or a dead panel, but it is not the only option.
Where the fault is a cable (flicker, Flexgate, dark band) we repair or replace the cable and keep your original panel, which costs a fraction of an assembly. Where only the LCD is damaged on a model with a separable panel, a panel-only swap is available at a lower price. The free diagnosis tells you which of the three you need before you decide anything.
What happens at the counter
You bring the Mac in, we boot it, connect an external display and run the display diagnostic. Within a few minutes at the counter you know whether it is the panel, the cable or the logic board, and you get a fixed price. If you approve, the technician replaces the display at the counter while you wait. Afterwards we check True Tone, the brightness range, colour uniformity, the camera and the lid sensor, then hand it back with the warranty noted on your invoice.
Why not the dealer or the big Mac chains?
As an independent Apple Certified workshop we usually quote lower than an Apple Authorised Service Provider for the same display job, and the Mac chains on the other side of KL keep the machine for a day or two. Here the Mac stays in front of you and the price is fixed before we touch it. If the fault is a cable instead of a display, a cable is what you pay for.
