An iMac problem is rarely simple to self-diagnose, because the screen, the computer and the power supply are all one sealed unit. A line down the display could be the panel, the graphics chip or a loose cable; a Mac that won't turn on could be the power supply, the logic board, or nothing more than a worn cable. iPRO Ampang has diagnosed and repaired iMacs since 2017, from the 27-inch 5K Retina down to the 21.5-inch, and we tell you which part has actually failed before we quote a price.

Common iMac faults
Vertical lines, flicker or a dead panel

No power, no chime

iMac generations we repair
iMac 24" M4 / M3 / M1 (2021–2024)
The thin, colourful Apple Silicon iMac. Faults are mostly the panel after a knock, the odd port failure, and, rarely, the board itself; storage and memory are soldered and cannot be upgraded.
iMac 27" 5K Retina (2014–2020)
The workhorse 5K screen, sold with a spinning hard drive, a Fusion Drive or an SSD depending on year and configuration. The storage bay is serviceable, making this the best iMac generation to upgrade.
iMac 21.5" 4K and non-Retina (2012–2019)
Spans the 2012 to 2015 non-Retina models and the 2017 to 2019 4K Retina models. Both take a serviceable drive; the display differs by year and is quoted after diagnosis.
iMac Pro (2017)
The Space Grey, high-end model sold for one generation only. Board and power supply repair follow the same component-level process as any other iMac, though some parts take longer to source.
iMac 2009–2011 (limited parts)
Still repairable when parts allow: drives, memory where accessible and displays are serviceable, subject to parts availability at this age.
Fusion Drive models (2013–2019)
Pairs a small SSD with a spinning hard drive; the mechanical half is the part that fails, usually announced by a slow spin-up or a clicking noise before it stops entirely. An SSD upgrade removes the weak link outright.
Bringing an iMac in: just the iMac
You do not need to bring the keyboard, mouse or the original box. We only need the iMac itself and, if you still have the power cable, that speeds up testing, but we keep spares at the counter. Carry it upright by the base and the top edge of the stand, never by the screen itself, and if you have kept the original packaging that is the safest way to transport a 27-inch model.
Once it's on the bench we power it from our own cable, run the diagnostic, and call or WhatsApp you with the fixed price and an honest estimate of the time. If the machine needs to stay for board or screen work, it is kept in a padded case at the workshop, not left standing exposed on a shelf.
SSD upgrade: the single best iMac fix
Most of the iMacs that feel too slow to use are not actually broken; they are running on a spinning hard drive or a Fusion Drive that was the fastest option available the year they were bought. An SSD upgrade with full data migration is the single change that makes an old iMac feel new again, more noticeable day to day than a faster processor would be.
The storage bay is accessible on 27-inch 5K, 21.5-inch 4K and most 21.5-inch non-Retina models; we confirm the exact drive type and connector before quoting, since it differs by year. From 2021 onward, storage on the 24-inch Apple Silicon iMac is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded after purchase; we say so plainly rather than take on a job we cannot do.
5K and 24-inch panel repair
The 27-inch 5K Retina panel and the 24-inch Apple Silicon panel are both large, laminated assemblies, glued rather than clipped into the chassis, so a replacement is bench work rather than a counter job. We quote after confirming the fault is actually the panel and not a cable or connector, since a cable repair costs a fraction of a new panel.
Screen and panel work on an iMac takes one to three days, the same window as logic board repair, because both need the machine open on the bench and tested through a full burn-in before it goes back together.
